Is Linalyl Anthranilate natural?

It depends. Linalool is sold both as an essential-oil isolate and as a fully synthetic terpene, so the ester is route-dependent; the aromatic acid half is petrochemical either way. Same ruling as Linalool and Linalyl Acetate.

Why the score varies

This ingredient is made commercially by more than one route, and ISO 16128 scores the feedstock actually used. Without a supplier certificate of origin the value cannot be claimed.

Ask your supplier. A batch-specific certificate of origin or bio-based carbon test (ASTM D6866) settles which route applies.

How we scored it

Ester C17H23NO2 273.4 Da. Linalyl fragment C10H17O 153.2 Da is natural only from essential-oil linalool; the anthranilate C7H6NO fragment 120.1 Da is petrochemical in every route → natural-linalool route 153.2/273.4 = 0.56, synthetic-linalool route 0.00. Headline shows the natural-linalool route.
What counts. ISO 16128-2 scores the atoms that remain in the final ingredient. Reagents, solvents, catalysts and protecting groups used during manufacture leave no mass behind and are not counted.

Where it comes from

Linalool (natural isolate or synthetic) esterified with anthranilic acid from petrochemical phthalic anhydride.

In plain English

A fragrance ingredient with a fruity odour, made by combining linalool (a scent compound found in many plants) with anthranilic acid. The linalool may be plant-derived or synthesised; the acid part is always synthesised.
