Is Linalool Oxide natural?

It depends. Linalool oxide is made by oxidising linalool, which is natural origin when made from pine turpentine and petrochemical when built from methylheptenone, or isolated directly from essential oils.

Why the score varies

This ingredient is made commercially by more than one route, and ISO 16128 scores the feedstock actually used. Without a supplier certificate of origin the value cannot be claimed.

Ask your supplier. A batch-specific certificate of origin or bio-based carbon test (ASTM D6866) settles which route applies.

How we scored it

Linalool C10H18O 154.25 Da + one oxygen 16.00 Da from hydrogen peroxide = 170.25 Da. Pine-derived linalool: 154.25/170.25 = 0.91; petrochemical linalool: 0.00; isolated from essential oils: 1.00. Not averaged.
What counts. ISO 16128-2 scores the atoms that remain in the final ingredient. Reagents, solvents, catalysts and protecting groups used during manufacture leave no mass behind and are not counted.

Where it comes from

Most commercial linalool oxide is made by epoxidising linalool, usually petrochemical-route linalool; pine-derived linalool gives a mostly natural product. A natural route isolates it from essential oils that contain it.

In plain English

A floral fragrance ingredient related to linalool, found in some essential oils and also produced synthetically.
