How we scored it
Sodium + pyrophosphate, both mineral-derived, natural origin under ISO 16128 = 1.0.
What counts. ISO 16128-2 scores the atoms that remain in the final ingredient. Reagents, solvents, catalysts and protecting groups used during manufacture leave no mass behind and are not counted.
Where it comes from
Disodium pyrophosphate is manufactured from phosphate rock via phosphoric acid, then neutralised with sodium. Both the phosphate and sodium portions are mineral-derived.
In plain English
A mineral salt derived from phosphate rock, used in toothpaste and cosmetics to prevent tartar buildup, adjust pH, and bind trace metals that could destabilise a formula.
CosIng definition: Disodium dihydrogenpyrophosphate
Structure
disodium;[hydroxy(oxido)phosphoryl] hydrogen phosphate
