How we scored it
Al (mineral ore) + 3 Cl (mineral/brine chloride); simple inorganic mineral salt => 1.0
What counts. ISO 16128-2 scores the atoms that remain in the final ingredient. Reagents, solvents, catalysts and protecting groups used during manufacture leave no mass behind and are not counted.
Where it comes from
Aluminum Chloride is manufactured by reacting aluminium (from bauxite ore) with chlorine or hydrochloric acid (from mineral brine). It is a straightforward inorganic mineral salt with no alternative route.
In plain English
A mineral salt used in antiperspirants and deodorants to reduce sweat and odor, and as an astringent. It's produced from aluminum ore and chloride, both mineral in origin.
Structure
trichloroalumane
