How we scored it
Ethanol C2H6O, dominant supply route is sugar/grain fermentation (natural) → 46/46 = 1.0; minor synthetic route noted
What counts. ISO 16128-2 scores the atoms that remain in the final ingredient. Reagents, solvents, catalysts and protecting groups used during manufacture leave no mass behind and are not counted.
Where it comes from
Most alcohol denat. is fermented from corn, grain, sugar beet or sugarcane, then denatured. A smaller share is made synthetically by hydrating petrochemical ethylene.
In plain English
Plain alcohol (ethanol) with an additive so it can't be drunk. Used as a solvent and to help products dry quickly. Usually made by fermenting corn, grain or sugarcane sugars.
CosIng definition: Alcohol Denat. is ethyl alcohol that is denatured with one or more denaturing agents in accordance with the national legislation of each European Community (EU) country.
