How we scored it
Xylitol (natural sugar alcohol) esterified with caprylic acid (natural C8 fatty acid); both building blocks natural, esterification loses only water.
What counts. ISO 16128-2 scores the atoms that remain in the final ingredient. Reagents, solvents, catalysts and protecting groups used during manufacture leave no mass behind and are not counted.
Where it comes from
Made by esterifying plant-derived xylitol (from corn cob or birch xylan) with caprylic acid from coconut or palm kernel oil. No petrochemical route is used commercially.
In plain English
An emollient and mild antimicrobial ester made from xylitol, a natural plant sugar alcohol, and caprylic acid, a natural coconut-derived fatty acid.
CosIng definition: Xylityl Sesquicaprylate is a mixture of mono- and diesters of Caprylic Acid and the hexitol anhydrides derived from Xylitol.
Structure
