How we scored it
Citric acid (fermentation, natural) triesterified with 3 mol octyldodecanol (C20 branched fatty alcohol, assumed oleochemical per C8-C22 convention); all-natural ester = 1.0.
What counts. ISO 16128-2 scores the atoms that remain in the final ingredient. Reagents, solvents, catalysts and protecting groups used during manufacture leave no mass behind and are not counted.
Where it comes from
Trioctyldodecyl Citrate is the triester of citric acid (from carbohydrate fermentation) and octyldodecanol, a branched C20 Guerbet alcohol typically made from coconut- or palm-derived fatty alcohols. A petrochemical oxo-alcohol source is possible but not assumed for cosmetic grade.
In plain English
A silky emollient ester made from citric acid, sourced from fermented sugar, and a plant-derived fatty alcohol. It smooths and conditions skin without feeling greasy.
Structure
tris(2-octyldodecyl) 2-hydroxypropane-1,2,3-tricarboxylate
