How we scored it
Glycerin (natural) esterified with isostearic acid (oleochemical, isomerised natural fatty acid) — ester of natural building blocks → 1.0.
What counts. ISO 16128-2 scores the atoms that remain in the final ingredient. Reagents, solvents, catalysts and protecting groups used during manufacture leave no mass behind and are not counted.
Where it comes from
Isostearic acid is produced by catalytic isomerisation/dimerisation of natural tall-oil or vegetable oleic acid, then esterified with glycerin. No significant petrochemical route exists.
In plain English
A skin-conditioning oil made by combining glycerin with isostearic acid, a branched fatty acid derived from natural plant oils. Used to soften skin and thicken formulas.
CosIng definition: Triisostearin is the triester of glycerin and Isostearic Acid
