How we scored it
Tocopherol (vegetable oil) + glucose (starch), joined by an enzymatic glycosidic bond with no petrochemical atoms added = 1.0.
What counts. ISO 16128-2 scores the atoms that remain in the final ingredient. Reagents, solvents, catalysts and protecting groups used during manufacture leave no mass behind and are not counted.
Where it comes from
Tocopheryl glucoside is produced by enzymatic transglycosylation of natural d-alpha-tocopherol (from vegetable oil) with starch-derived glucose. Both building blocks are natural-origin and the enzymatic bond adds no synthetic mass.
In plain English
A water-soluble form of vitamin E, made by attaching a sugar (glucose) molecule to natural vegetable-oil-derived vitamin E. Used as an antioxidant and skin-conditioning ingredient.
