How we scored it
Botanical extract: every extracted constituent is plant-derived (n = 1); extraction solvent leaves no counted mass. Natural mass / total mass = 1.00.
What counts. ISO 16128-2 scores the atoms that remain in the final ingredient. Reagents, solvents, catalysts and protecting groups used during manufacture leave no mass behind and are not counted.
Where it comes from
Dominant feedstock is linden plant material harvested in Europe, extracted with water, ethanol or glycol/glycerin solvents. No synthetic route exists for the extract; any carrier solvent is declared as a separate INCI line.
In plain English
An extract of the small-leaved linden (lime) tree, Tilia cordata, a European tree. It is used in skin-care products as a skin-conditioning, smoothing and protecting ingredient. It is made by soaking the plant material in water, alcohol or a similar solvent.
CosIng definition: Tilia Cordata Extract is the extract of the whole plant of the Linden, Tilia cordata, Tiliaceae
