How we scored it
Hydrogenated curcumin; H2 addition to the natural turmeric pigment adds no petrochemical mass.
What counts. ISO 16128-2 scores the atoms that remain in the final ingredient. Reagents, solvents, catalysts and protecting groups used during manufacture leave no mass behind and are not counted.
Where it comes from
Made by catalytic hydrogenation of curcumin from Curcuma longa (turmeric) rhizomes. No significant petrochemical total-synthesis route is in commercial use.
In plain English
An antioxidant made by chemically reducing curcumin, the pigment from turmeric root. Used in skincare for its antioxidant properties; it keeps turmeric's chemical backbone.
