How we scored it
Synthetic mica-type mineral crystallised from silica, alumina, magnesia, potash and fluoride mineral feedstocks; whole compound mineral-derived = 1.0.
What counts. ISO 16128-2 scores the atoms that remain in the final ingredient. Reagents, solvents, catalysts and protecting groups used during manufacture leave no mass behind and are not counted.
Where it comes from
Manufactured by fusing mineral raw materials (silica, alumina, magnesium oxide, potassium/fluoride salts) at high temperature and crystallising the melt. It has no petrochemical carbon content; naturally mined mica is the non-synthetic alternative form.
In plain English
A lab-grown, ultra-pure version of natural mica, used to add shimmer and bulk to powders and makeup. It is manufactured by melting mineral raw materials together and letting them crystallise under controlled conditions.
Structure
aluminum;trimagnesium;potassium;decakis(oxygen(2-));tris(silicon(4+));difluoride
