How we scored it
Sulfated glycosaminoglycan extracted from animal tissue; the sulfate ester and sodium counter-ion count as natural, and the backbone is a natural biopolymer.
What counts. ISO 16128-2 scores the atoms that remain in the final ingredient. Reagents, solvents, catalysts and protecting groups used during manufacture leave no mass behind and are not counted.
Where it comes from
Extracted and purified from animal (typically porcine) connective tissue, analogous to chondroitin/dermatan sulfate sourcing. No synthetic route is used commercially.
In plain English
A skin-conditioning ingredient derived from a natural sulfated sugar-polymer found in animal connective tissue, similar to the more familiar chondroitin sulfate.
CosIng definition: Poly(N-acetyl-D-galactosamine-4-sulfate), sodium salts
