How we scored it
Where it comes from
Produced by fermenting genetically engineered E. coli expressing a human tropoelastin-identical sequence built from standard amino acids. No petrochemical alternative route is used commercially.
In plain English
A lab-made copy of human tropoelastin, a skin-elasticity protein, produced by fermenting engineered bacteria. Used to condition skin in anti-aging products.
CosIng definition: sh-Polypeptide-50 is a single chain synthetic human peptide, produced by fermentation in E. coli. The starting gene is synthesized to be identical to the human gene which codes for Tropoelastin used such or adapted to the production host. It contains a maximum of 786 amino acids which may contain disulfide bonds and/or glycosylation. The protein consists of the proper sequence of the 20 standard amino acids.
