How we scored it
Extract of sage flowers, leaves and stems; all constituents plant-derived (n=1); solvent leaves no mass. 1 / 1 = 1.0.
What counts. ISO 16128-2 scores the atoms that remain in the final ingredient. Reagents, solvents, catalysts and protecting groups used during manufacture leave no mass behind and are not counted.
Where it comes from
Cultivated sage is extracted with water, alcohol or a glycol and the extract is concentrated. No synthetic route exists; any carrier solvent is declared separately on the INCI.
In plain English
An extract of the flowers, leaves and stems of common sage, used in skincare for its skin-conditioning role and as a fragrance component. It is made by steeping the plant material in a solvent and concentrating the liquid.
CosIng definition: Salvia Officinalis Flower/Leaf/Stem Extract is an extract of the flowers, leaves and stems of the Sage, Salvia officinalis L., Lamiaceae
