How we scored it
Where it comes from
Bacteria carrying the human FGF-2 gene are fermented on a sugar-based medium and the protein is purified. No chemical-synthesis route is used commercially.
In plain English
A human growth-factor protein (basic fibroblast growth factor) made by growing engineered E. coli bacteria on a nutrient medium and purifying the protein. It is added to skin-care products as a conditioning and protecting ingredient.
CosIng definition: rh-Polypeptide-1 is a single chain recombinant human peptide, produced by fermentation in E. coli. The starting gene is directly isolated from a human cell which codes for Basic Fibroblast Growth Factor. It contains a maximum of 210 amino acids which may contain disulfide bonds and/or glycosylation. The protein consists of the proper sequence of the standard amino acids. Basic Fibroblast Growth Factor; bFGF; FGF-2; Human Oligopeptide-3
