How we scored it
Inorganic mineral salt KMnO4; potassium and manganese oxide are both mineral-derived, no organic fragment.
What counts. ISO 16128-2 scores the atoms that remain in the final ingredient. Reagents, solvents, catalysts and protecting groups used during manufacture leave no mass behind and are not counted.
Where it comes from
Potassium permanganate is manufactured from manganese dioxide ore fused with potassium hydroxide and oxidised. It is a purely inorganic mineral salt with no petrochemical alternative.
In plain English
A mineral-derived oxidising compound, deep purple in colour, occasionally used in oral care and specialty formulas. Manufactured industrially from manganese ore and potassium hydroxide.
Structure
