How we scored it
Plant extract, no single molecule: seed oils, flavonoids and other constituents are all plant-derived (n = 1), so natural fraction = 1.0. Extraction solvents and carriers leave no counted mass.
What counts. ISO 16128-2 scores the atoms that remain in the final ingredient. Reagents, solvents, catalysts and protecting groups used during manufacture leave no mass behind and are not counted.
Where it comes from
Karanja seeds (Pongamia pinnata) are crushed and extracted with ethanol, water or a glycol-water solvent, then filtered. No synthetic alternative route exists for a botanical extract.
In plain English
An extract of the seeds of the karanja, or Indian beech, tree (Pongamia pinnata). It is used in skin care as a skin-conditioning ingredient. It is made by extracting crushed seeds with a solvent and filtering the liquid.
CosIng definition: Pongamia Pinnata Seed Extract is an extract of the seeds of Pongamia pinnata (L.), Fabaceae
