Is Polyurethane-46 natural?

No. Isophorone diisocyanate, polybutanediol, PEG and methyl diethanolamine are all standard petrochemical building blocks.

How we scored it

Prepolymer of IPDI with poly(butanediol), methoxy-PEG and methyl diethanolamine -- all petrochemical polyols/amine; no natural fragment identified.
What counts. ISO 16128-2 scores the atoms that remain in the final ingredient. Reagents, solvents, catalysts and protecting groups used during manufacture leave no mass behind and are not counted.

Where it comes from

Manufactured entirely from petrochemical diisocyanate, polyether/polyester polyols and a synthetic amine. No bio-based route is used for this grade.

In plain English

A fully synthetic conditioning polymer for hair products, built from petrochemical diisocyanate and polyol building blocks.

CosIng definition: Polyurethane-46 is a complex urethane-based polymer. Initially, a pre-polymer is made by the reaction of isophorone diisocyanate (IPDI) with three different polyols. The polyols are poly(1,4-butanediol)-30, methoxy PEG-20 terminated with a 2,2 dimethyol butoxy group, and Methyl Diethanolamine .
