Is Polyurethane-24 natural?

No. The backbone diisocyanate, polyether, butanediol and diamine are petrochemical; the minor lauryl-acrylate-modified silane end-group is too small and poorly quantified to shift the total.

How we scored it

IPDI, PTMEG-butanediol polyol, 1,4-butanediol, DMBA, aminosilane/lauryl-acrylate adduct and isophorone diamine — dominant fragments all petrochemical. 0/total≈0.00.
What counts. ISO 16128-2 scores the atoms that remain in the final ingredient. Reagents, solvents, catalysts and protecting groups used during manufacture leave no mass behind and are not counted.

Where it comes from

Polyurethane-24 is a multi-step silane-modified polyurethane built almost entirely from petrochemical isophorone diisocyanate, polyether/butanediol polyols and isophorone diamine. A small lauryl acrylate-modified silane component is grafted on but does not materially change the overall petrochemical origin.

In plain English

A complex silicone-modified polyurethane used to condition and fix hair styling. Built from petrochemical isocyanates, polyether and butanediol, a silane coupling agent and diamine chain-extender.

CosIng definition: Polyurethane-24 is a complex polymer prepared via the following multi-step synthesis. First, isophorone diisocyanate (IPDI) is reacted with three different polyols: Poly(1,4-Butanediol)-30, 1,4-Butanediol, and dimethylol butanoic acid. This pre-polymer is then reacted with a reagent formed by the reaction between Aminpropyl Triethoxysilane and lauryl acrylate. The resulting polymer is subsequently chain extended by reaction with isophorone diamine in aqueous solution to produce Polyurethane-24
