How we scored it
Where it comes from
Cholesterol is esterified onto a carboxyphenoxypropyl cyclosiloxane and copolymerised with cholesteryl methacrylate and an allyloxy-phenyl ester methacrylate, so only the cholesterol is natural-origin. No alternative route is known.
In plain English
A silicone-based polymer carrying cholesterol side groups, used as an opacifier, which makes a product look less see-through. It is made in a factory; the cholesterol comes from animal sources such as wool grease, while the silicone and methacrylate parts are synthetic.
CosIng definition: Cyclosiloxanes, methyl 3-(4-carboxyphenoxy)propyl, esters with cholesterol and 4-hydroxyphenyl 2-methyl-2-propenoate, polymers with cholesteryl -2-methyl-2-propenoate and 4-(4-(2-propenyloxy)phenylcarbonyloxy)phenyl 2-methyl-2-propenoate
