How we scored it
Polyglycerol-6 (glycerin self-condensation, loses only water) esterified with lauric acid (coconut/palm C12 fatty acid). Both fragments natural. 1.0.
What counts. ISO 16128-2 scores the atoms that remain in the final ingredient. Reagents, solvents, catalysts and protecting groups used during manufacture leave no mass behind and are not counted.
Where it comes from
Made by reacting glycerin, usually from vegetable oils, with itself to form a chain of about six glycerol units, then esterifying it with lauric acid from coconut or palm oil. Oleochemical supplier sourcing is assumed for the fatty acid.
In plain English
An emulsifier that helps oil and water mix in creams and lotions. It's made by combining glycerin, a plant-derived sugar alcohol, with lauric acid from coconut or palm oil.
