How we scored it
Polyglycerin-2 (glycerol dimer, natural) esterified 1:1 with caprylic acid C8 (coconut/palm, natural); both fragments natural → 1.0.
What counts. ISO 16128-2 scores the atoms that remain in the final ingredient. Reagents, solvents, catalysts and protecting groups used during manufacture leave no mass behind and are not counted.
Where it comes from
Made by esterifying polyglycerin (oligomerised vegetable glycerin) with caprylic acid from coconut or palm kernel oil. Petrochemical caprylic acid exists but is not the cosmetic-grade norm.
In plain English
Made by linking glycerin (from vegetable oil) into a short chain and combining it with caprylic acid, a fatty acid from coconut or palm oil. Works as a gentle emulsifier that blends oil and water in creams.
CosIng definition: 1,2,3-Propanetriol, homopolymer, octanoates (1:1) (2 mol glycerol average molar ratio)
