How we scored it
Whole essential oil obtained by steam distillation; this site's convention: essential oils = 1.0, even though it is anethole-rich.
What counts. ISO 16128-2 scores the atoms that remain in the final ingredient. Reagents, solvents, catalysts and protecting groups used during manufacture leave no mass behind and are not counted.
Where it comes from
Steam-distilled from dried anise (Pimpinella anisum) fruit. No alternative industrial route for the whole oil.
In plain English
Essential oil steam-distilled from anise seeds, used for its sweet, liquorice-like scent. A whole natural essential oil, not a single isolated compound.
CosIng definition: "Anise Oil". Pimpinella Anisum Fruit Oil is an essential oil obtained from the dried ripe fruits of the Anise, Pimpinella anisum L., Umbelliferae. It contains 80-90% anethole, methyl chavicol, anisaldehyde
