How we scored it
Where it comes from
Pichia pastoris is grown in a fermenter on a sugar or glycerol medium, then the cells or broth are extracted and the extract filtered. Pichia is a methanol-utilising yeast, so a methanol-fed process is possible and the supplier's carbon source should be confirmed.
In plain English
A clear liquid made by growing a yeast, Pichia pastoris, in a fermenter, then extracting the culture and filtering it. Used in skin-care products as an emollient and skin-conditioning ingredient. It comes from the yeast culture and whatever nutrients the yeast was grown on.
CosIng definition: Pichia Ferment Extract Filtrate is a filtrate of an extract of the product obtained through fermentation by the microorganism Pichia pastoris.
