How we scored it
Lanolin fatty acid (wool grease, natural) esterified with oleyl alcohol (oleochemical C18) — ester of natural building blocks → 1.0.
What counts. ISO 16128-2 scores the atoms that remain in the final ingredient. Reagents, solvents, catalysts and protecting groups used during manufacture leave no mass behind and are not counted.
Where it comes from
Made by esterifying lanolin (wool grease) fatty acids with oleyl alcohol derived from natural fats. A synthetic oleyl alcohol route exists but cosmetic grade is typically oleochemical.
In plain English
An emollient ester made from lanolin, a fat from sheep's wool, and a fatty alcohol derived from natural oils. Used in creams and lotions to soften skin and reduce static in hair.
CosIng definition: Fatty acids, lanolin, 9-(Z)-octadecenyl esters
