How we scored it
Myristic acid (oleochemical) esterified with octyldodecanol (Guerbet alcohol from natural fatty alcohols); both fragments = 1.0.
What counts. ISO 16128-2 scores the atoms that remain in the final ingredient. Reagents, solvents, catalysts and protecting groups used during manufacture leave no mass behind and are not counted.
Where it comes from
Manufactured by esterifying myristic acid from coconut or palm kernel oil with octyldodecanol, a Guerbet alcohol built by dimerising natural fatty alcohols. Guerbet alcohols can in principle use petrochemical starting alcohols; cosmetic grade is assumed oleochemical.
In plain English
A silky, lightweight oil made by combining myristic acid with a branched fatty alcohol, both usually derived from plant or coconut oils. Used as an emollient to soften skin without feeling greasy.
Structure
2-octyldodecyl tetradecanoate
