How we scored it
Natural oleoresin: benzyl benzoate, benzyl cinnamate, nerolidol and resin acids are tree-biosynthesised, all n=1, so 1.0. Natural benzoates and cinnamates are not petrochemical benzene derivatives.
What counts. ISO 16128-2 scores the atoms that remain in the final ingredient. Reagents, solvents, catalysts and protecting groups used during manufacture leave no mass behind and are not counted.
Where it comes from
Oleoresin is tapped from Myroxylon balsamum trees (Peru-balsam type from El Salvador, Tolu-balsam type from Colombia) and filtered. No synthetic route exists for the INCI-defined balsam.
In plain English
A balsam resin tapped from Myroxylon trees of Central and South America, used for its film-forming and fragrance roles. It has a sweet, vanilla-like scent and contains benzoic and cinnamic acid esters that the tree makes itself.
CosIng definition: Myroxylon Balsamum Resin is an oleoresin obtained from Myroxylon balsamum.
