How we scored it
Ester of myristyl alcohol (natural C14 fatty alcohol) and isostearic acid (natural branched fatty acid from oleic acid): 100/100=1.00.
What counts. ISO 16128-2 scores the atoms that remain in the final ingredient. Reagents, solvents, catalysts and protecting groups used during manufacture leave no mass behind and are not counted.
Where it comes from
Myristyl Isostearate is made by esterifying myristyl alcohol from coconut or palm oil with isostearic acid, a branched fatty acid derived by isomerising natural oleic acid. No petrochemical route is used commercially for either building block.
In plain English
An emollient ester made from a coconut-derived fatty alcohol and a branched fatty acid from vegetable oil. It gives a light, silky feel while coming entirely from plant oils.
Structure
tetradecyl 16-methylheptadecanoate
