How we scored it
Extract of peppermint flowers, leaves and stems; all constituents plant-derived (n=1); solvent leaves no mass. 1 / 1 = 1.0.
What counts. ISO 16128-2 scores the atoms that remain in the final ingredient. Reagents, solvents, catalysts and protecting groups used during manufacture leave no mass behind and are not counted.
Where it comes from
Cultivated peppermint is extracted with water, alcohol or a glycol and the extract is concentrated. Steam-distilled peppermint oil and menthol are different materials, not part of this extract.
In plain English
An extract of the flowers, leaves and stems of peppermint, used in skincare and as a fragrance and flavour component. It is made by steeping the plant material in a solvent and concentrating the liquid.
CosIng definition: Mentha Piperita Flower/Leaf/Stem Extract is an extract of the flowers, leaves and stems of the Peppermint, Mentha piperita (L.), Labiatae
