How we scored it
Steam-distilled volatile oil; constituents (mainly menthol, menthone and related terpenoids) are all plant-derived: 1.00.
What counts. ISO 16128-2 scores the atoms that remain in the final ingredient. Reagents, solvents, catalysts and protecting groups used during manufacture leave no mass behind and are not counted.
Where it comes from
Dominant route: steam distillation of harvested cornmint (Mentha arvensis), grown mainly in India. The oil is often sold dementholised after menthol is crystallised out, which remains plant-derived.
In plain English
Cornmint essential oil, steam-distilled from the leaves and stems of Mentha arvensis. It gives a minty, cooling scent and is used in products for fragrance and skin conditioning.
CosIng definition: Mentha Arvensis Leaf/Stem Oil is the volatile oil obtained from the leaves and stems of Mentha arvensis, Lamiaceae.
