How we scored it
Mg 24.3 mineral + nitrate N2O6 124.0 from air nitrogen and oxygen (Haber-Bosch, Ostwald), no hydrocarbon atoms kept. 148.3 / 148.3 = 1.0.
What counts. ISO 16128-2 scores the atoms that remain in the final ingredient. Reagents, solvents, catalysts and protecting groups used during manufacture leave no mass behind and are not counted.
Where it comes from
Magnesium oxide, hydroxide or carbonate from magnesite or seawater brine is neutralised with nitric acid made by ammonia oxidation. The nitrate atoms are air-derived, so the synthetic nitric acid route does not change the value.
In plain English
An inorganic magnesium salt listed for hair conditioning. It is made by reacting magnesium oxide or carbonate with nitric acid.
Structure
magnesium dinitrate
