How we scored it
Ascorbate (glucose-fermentation-derived) + magnesium (mineral counter-ion), both natural origin = 1.0.
What counts. ISO 16128-2 scores the atoms that remain in the final ingredient. Reagents, solvents, catalysts and protecting groups used during manufacture leave no mass behind and are not counted.
Where it comes from
Magnesium ascorbate is the magnesium salt of ascorbic acid, itself made from fermented or converted glucose (corn or other starch sources). Magnesium is a natural mineral counter-ion.
In plain English
A stable, mineral-buffered form of vitamin C, made from glucose fermentation combined with magnesium. Used as an antioxidant and skin-conditioning ingredient in skincare products.
Structure
magnesium bis((2R)-2-[(1S)-1,2-dihydroxyethyl]-3-hydroxy-5-oxo-2H-furan-4-olate)
