How we scored it
Aqueous steam distillate of lavender: water (n=1) plus dissolved plant volatiles (n=1); no petrochemical atoms. 1.00.
What counts. ISO 16128-2 scores the atoms that remain in the final ingredient. Reagents, solvents, catalysts and protecting groups used during manufacture leave no mass behind and are not counted.
Where it comes from
Dominant feedstock is lavender flowering tops, steam-distilled; the hydrosol is the aqueous layer left after the essential oil separates. No commercially significant synthetic route exists.
In plain English
The water collected when lavender flowers are steam-distilled, also called lavender hydrosol. It is used for a light lavender scent and as a water-phase ingredient in toners, mists and creams. It comes entirely from lavender plant material and water.
CosIng definition: Lavandula Angustifolia Water is an aqueous solution of the steam distillate obtained from the Lavender, Lavandula angustifolia, Labiatae
