How we scored it
Ester of lauryl alcohol (C12H26O, dodecanol) + palmitic acid (C16H32O2), both oleochemical fatty-chain feedstocks; 424.7/424.7 = 1.0.
What counts. ISO 16128-2 scores the atoms that remain in the final ingredient. Reagents, solvents, catalysts and protecting groups used during manufacture leave no mass behind and are not counted.
Where it comes from
Cosmetic-grade lauryl palmitate is made by esterifying coconut/palm-derived dodecanol with palmitic acid from palm or tallow. A petrochemical (Ziegler/oxo) dodecanol alternative exists, worth a supplier check.
In plain English
An emollient wax-like ester used to soften and condition skin and hair, and reduce static. Made by combining a fatty alcohol from coconut or palm oil with palmitic acid, a common plant/animal fat component.
Structure
dodecyl hexadecanoate
