How we scored it
Solvent extract of laurel leaves and stems: polyphenols, flavonoids, sugars and terpenoids are plant-made; extraction solvent leaves no mass; no synthetic fragment, 1.0.
What counts. ISO 16128-2 scores the atoms that remain in the final ingredient. Reagents, solvents, catalysts and protecting groups used during manufacture leave no mass behind and are not counted.
Where it comes from
Solvent extraction (water, alcohol or glycol-water) of the leaves and stems of bay laurel (Laurus nobilis), a Mediterranean evergreen. No synthetic route exists; the extract is the whole botanical preparation.
In plain English
An extract made by soaking the leaves and stems of the bay laurel in a solvent and concentrating the liquid. It is used as a skin-conditioning ingredient. The plant is the same Mediterranean laurel whose leaves are sold as the cooking herb bay leaf.
CosIng definition: Laurus Nobilis Leaf/Stem Extract is the extract of the leaves and stems of the Laurel, Laurus nobilis L., Lauraceae
