How we scored it
Where it comes from
Isostearic acid is made by catalytic isomerisation/dimerisation of oleic acid from vegetable oils, then amidated with monoisopropanolamine (MIPA) from petrochemical propylene oxide. No alternative natural route exists for the MIPA portion.
In plain English
A foam-boosting, thickening ingredient made from a branched vegetable-oil-derived fatty acid combined with a synthetic amine from propylene oxide. About 78% of its weight comes from the fatty acid.
