How we scored it
Quercetin (plant flavonoid) + glucose, glycosidically linked; both building blocks plant-derived, no petrochemical fragment introduced.
What counts. ISO 16128-2 scores the atoms that remain in the final ingredient. Reagents, solvents, catalysts and protecting groups used during manufacture leave no mass behind and are not counted.
Where it comes from
Extracted from plants such as Sophora japonica, or produced by enzymatically removing one sugar (rhamnose) from rutin, itself a plant flavonoid. Both routes are natural-origin; no commercial petrochemical synthesis is used.
In plain English
A plant flavonoid (quercetin bound to a sugar) used as an antioxidant in skincare. Extracted from plants or made by enzymatically converting a related plant flavonoid (rutin).
