How we scored it
Essential oil steam-distilled from star anise fruit; entirely plant-derived. 100/100=1.00.
What counts. ISO 16128-2 scores the atoms that remain in the final ingredient. Reagents, solvents, catalysts and protecting groups used during manufacture leave no mass behind and are not counted.
Where it comes from
Star anise essential oil is obtained by steam distillation of the dried fruits of Illicium verum, grown mainly in China and Vietnam. There is no alternative synthetic route used commercially for this fragrance oil.
