How we scored it
Hyaluronic acid (bacterial fermentation product) hydrolysed to lower MW; hydrolysates of natural building blocks are 1.0, hydrolysis reagents leave no mass.
What counts. ISO 16128-2 scores the atoms that remain in the final ingredient. Reagents, solvents, catalysts and protecting groups used during manufacture leave no mass behind and are not counted.
Where it comes from
Made by microbial fermentation (Streptococcus or Bacillus strains) of plant sugars to give hyaluronic acid, then hydrolysed with acid or enzymes to lower its molecular weight. No petrochemical route exists.
In plain English
A smaller version of hyaluronic acid that penetrates skin more easily while still holding water. It's made by fermenting plant sugars with bacteria, then breaking the resulting chain into shorter pieces.
CosIng definition: Hydrolyzed Hyaluronic Acid is the hydrolysate of Hyaluronic Acid derived by acid, enzyme or other method of hydrolysis
