How we scored it
Hydrolysate of carrageenan (red-seaweed polysaccharide); acid/enzyme hydrolysis adds no mass -> 100% seaweed-derived.
What counts. ISO 16128-2 scores the atoms that remain in the final ingredient. Reagents, solvents, catalysts and protecting groups used during manufacture leave no mass behind and are not counted.
Where it comes from
Produced by partial acid or enzymatic hydrolysis of carrageenan extracted from red seaweeds such as Chondrus and Eucheuma. No alternative petrochemical route exists.
In plain English
A thickening, skin-conditioning ingredient made by breaking down seaweed gum (carrageenan) into smaller fragments. It comes from red seaweed and helps give lotions and creams a smooth texture.
CosIng definition: Hydrolyzed Carrageenan is the hydrolysate of Carrageenan derived by acid, enzyme or other method of hydrolysis
