How we scored it
Unsaponifiable fraction of olive oil (natural triterpenes, squalene, sterols), hydrogenated. Added hydrogen leaves the carbon skeleton from olive oil intact; rates hydrogenated natural oils 1.0.
What counts. ISO 16128-2 scores the atoms that remain in the final ingredient. Reagents, solvents, catalysts and protecting groups used during manufacture leave no mass behind and are not counted.
Where it comes from
Made by saponifying olive oil, isolating the non-soap unsaponifiable residue (squalene, sterols, tocopherols, triterpene alcohols), then hydrogenating it to improve oxidative stability. Entirely olive-derived.
In plain English
A stable, waxy conditioning ingredient concentrated from the minor components of olive oil left after soap-making, then hardened by hydrogenation for better shelf stability. Softens skin and hair.
CosIng definition: Olive oil, unsaponifiable fraction, hydrogenated
