How we scored it
Where it comes from
Dominant route is cultivated crambe seed oil, rich in erucic acid, hydrogenated over a nickel catalyst to a hard, behenic-rich fat. No petrochemical route is known; fully and partially hydrogenated grades differ only in hardness.
In plain English
Crambe seed oil that has been hydrogenated: hydrogen is added to its fatty acids so the liquid oil becomes a firmer, waxy fat. It is used in skincare products as a skin-conditioning ingredient and is made from crambe seeds, a mustard-family crop.
CosIng definition: Hydrogenated Crambe Abyssinica Seed Oil is the end-product of the controlled hydrogenation of Crambe Abyssinica Seed Oil.
