Why the score varies
This ingredient is made commercially by more than one route, and ISO 16128 scores the feedstock actually used. Without a supplier certificate of origin the value cannot be claimed.

How we scored it
Where it comes from
1-Heptanol is etherified with a glycerin-derived three-carbon unit (glycidol or epichlorohydrin) and hydrolysed. Heptanol is made both by cracking castor oil (via heptanal) and by oxo synthesis from 1-hexene; suppliers rarely state which.
In plain English
A glycerin-based ether that works as a mild antimicrobial and deodorising agent, a skin-softening emollient and a helper emulsifier. Its glycerin part is plant-derived; the seven-carbon chain comes either from castor oil or from petrochemical heptanol.
