Is Epoxidized Soybean Oil natural?

Yes. Every carbon originates from soybean oil; the epoxidising peracid or peroxide is a reagent that adds no hydrocarbon mass.

How we scored it

Soybean oil triglyceride, C=C bonds epoxidised via peracid/peroxide; all carbons remain soybean-oil carbons -> 1.0 (oxidant reagent contributes no retained hydrocarbon mass, per ozonolysis convention)
What counts. ISO 16128-2 scores the atoms that remain in the final ingredient. Reagents, solvents, catalysts and protecting groups used during manufacture leave no mass behind and are not counted.

Where it comes from

Made by epoxidising the double bonds of natural soybean oil with a peracid or hydrogen peroxide catalyst system. The fatty-acid carbon skeleton is entirely soybean-derived; no alternative route is used commercially.

In plain English

Soybean oil that has had oxygen added across its double bonds to form epoxide rings, improving stability. Used as an emollient and plasticiser; the fatty-acid backbone still comes entirely from soybean oil.

CosIng definition: Soybean oil, epoxidized
