How we scored it
Starch (natural) crosslinked with phosphate (mineral counter-ion group, natural by convention) in a 2:1 ratio; no petrochemical fragment → 1.0.
What counts. ISO 16128-2 scores the atoms that remain in the final ingredient. Reagents, solvents, catalysts and protecting groups used during manufacture leave no mass behind and are not counted.
Where it comes from
Produced by reacting natural starch (corn, tapioca or potato) with phosphoric acid/phosphate salts to crosslink two starch chains per phosphate bridge. No petrochemical alternative exists.
In plain English
A texture-improving starch chemically linked together with mineral phosphate to resist heat and shear. Used as a thickener, it comes from plant starch and a natural mineral salt.
CosIng definition: Starch, phosphoric acid ester (2:1)
