Is Disodium Laureth-6 Sulfosuccinate natural?

Mostly not. Sulfosuccinate half-ester: the fatty hydrophobe is oleochemical and both sodium counter-ions and the sulfonate group are mineral-derived, so all count as natural; the four-carbon succinate backbone comes from petrochemical maleic anhydride, and the ethoxylate/alkanolamide linker is petrochemical too. Same convention as Disodium Lauryl Sulfosuccinate.

How we scored it

Lauryl-O C12H25O 185.3 Da (natural) + SO3Na 103.0 Da + Na 23.0 Da (mineral, natural) = 311.4 Da; 6×EO (C2H4O)6 264.3 Da + succinate backbone C4H3O3 99.1 Da (maleic anhydride) = 363.4 Da petrochemical; total 674.8 Da → 311.4/674.8 = 0.46.
What counts. ISO 16128-2 scores the atoms that remain in the final ingredient. Reagents, solvents, catalysts and protecting groups used during manufacture leave no mass behind and are not counted.

Where it comes from

Fatty alcohol or fatty-acid alkanolamide from coconut, palm, tallow or vegetable oil reacted with maleic anhydride, then sulfonated with sodium bisulfite.

In plain English

A mild foam-boosting cleansing ingredient made by combining coconut-derived lauryl alcohol with a synthetic ethylene-oxide chain and a synthetic acid, then neutralising with sodium. Used in shampoos and washes.

CosIng definition: Poly(oxy-1,2-ethanediyl), .alpha.-(3-carboxy-1-oxo-3-sulfopropyl)-.omega.-(dodecyloxy)- , disodium salt
