How we scored it
Single phytosteroidal sapogenin obtained by acid hydrolysis of saponins from yam/fenugreek; all carbons plant-derived, hydrolysis water not counted.
What counts. ISO 16128-2 scores the atoms that remain in the final ingredient. Reagents, solvents, catalysts and protecting groups used during manufacture leave no mass behind and are not counted.
Where it comes from
Produced by acid hydrolysis of saponins extracted from wild yam (Dioscorea) tubers or fenugreek (Trigonella) seeds. It is also a precursor for semi-synthetic steroids, but as supplied here it is the natural plant isolate.
In plain English
A plant-derived compound found in yams and fenugreek seeds, used in skincare for skin conditioning. It's obtained by extracting and hydrolysing natural plant saponins, not by chemical synthesis.
