Is Dimer Dilinoleyl Dimer Dilinoleate natural?

Yes. Both the diol and diacid halves come from dimerised natural linoleic acid in vegetable oil; the dimerisation catalyst leaves no mass in the product.

How we scored it

Dimerised linoleic acid diol esterified with dimerised linoleic acid diacid; every carbon traces to natural linoleic acid, dimerisation catalyst leaves no mass = 1.0.
What counts. ISO 16128-2 scores the atoms that remain in the final ingredient. Reagents, solvents, catalysts and protecting groups used during manufacture leave no mass behind and are not counted.

Where it comes from

Made by thermally or catalytically dimerising unsaturated vegetable-oil fatty acids, mainly linoleic acid from soybean or tall oil, then reducing part of it and esterifying with more dimer acid. No petrochemical alternative route is used commercially.

In plain English

A skin- and hair-conditioning ingredient that thickens and smooths formulas. It is made by chemically linking fatty acids from vegetable oils, mainly soybean, into larger molecules.
