How we scored it
Partial acid/enzymatic hydrolysis product of starch; starches convention = 1.0.
What counts. ISO 16128-2 scores the atoms that remain in the final ingredient. Reagents, solvents, catalysts and protecting groups used during manufacture leave no mass behind and are not counted.
Where it comes from
Dextrin is produced by partially hydrolysing corn, potato, wheat or tapioca starch with heat, acid or enzymes. No petrochemical route is used.
In plain English
A starch-derived powder made by breaking down plant starch, such as corn or potato, into smaller pieces. It thickens products and helps bind or absorb moisture.
